Welcome our Newest DVIDA Examiner: Maria Hansen

Please welcome our newest DVIDA Examiner Maria Hansen. 

As a child, Maria studied ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics. In 1986, she began to study Ballroom Dancing. She instantly fell in love with the idea of partner dancing and decided that this would be the path that her life would take.

Maria began her career in Professional competition in the American style Smooth and Rhythm divisions, but later switching to International Style.

After only a year of competing, Maria became a finalist in the U.S. National Rising Star Latin Championship. She had also began competing in the Ballroom division, and soon after decided to pursue that style exclusively.

Maria is registered as a Certified Dance Instructor through ISTD and Terpsichore Associations. She trains competitive couples across the country in the art of Ballroom dance. She uses techniques that she learned throughout her dance career from master coaches in the dance business. She also utilizes methods that she learned at the renowned CHEK Institute, developed by Paul Chek, to correct posture, movement and prevent injuries in dancers.

Maria is a National Adjudicator registered with the National Dance Council of America (NDCA). She judges approximately 12-16 competitions a year, including the very prestigious United States Dance Championships, Emerald Ball and
the Ohio Star Ball, which is often featured on PBS.

Maria is Co-Organizer of Vegas Open Dance Challenge, a national competition registered with the National Dance Council of America (NDCA). She is also involved in the Dancesport Series events, the Global Dancesport Series events and the Dance Vision Circuit.

Maria is a registered CHEK Practitioner and Holistic Lifestyle Coach in which methods she uses to correct posture in her dance students, offer mobility exercises and nutritional programs.

She is also the former Treasurer of the Professional Dancer’s Federation (PDF) and the current Secretary of the Association of Dancesport Organizers Alliance (NADOA).

She has helped choreograph for the hit TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance”, and she has been featured numerous times on PBS’s “America’s Ballroom Challenge”.
